Tribute to my friend and sister Dr Aderonke Mosuro

Good people pass away; the godly often die before their time. But no one seems to care or wonder why. No one seems to understand that God is protecting them from the evil to come Is. 57:1 (NLT)

Dr Aderonke Mosuro, hmm, you came so swiftly into my life and that of my children, touched our lives in so many ways, and left like a lightning. We briefly met sometime in 2016 0r 2017, I can’t remember precisely but we became close friends in 2019. Dr Mosuro, you were a pleasure to be with, boisterous, full of life, very pleasant, very positive and ever ready to lend a helping hand. Once you hear of a need or situation in a person’s life, the next moment you are offering a solution. You are not one to discriminate. You left indelible marks and your footprint in the lives of all who came your way. You were a giver to the core. Someone called and said, that woman could give her life to anybody. That is who you were, “oni nu re”. May your children always find help. They will never be stranded in life. Amen.

You were my pillar of support, my go to person, my prayer and gist partner. There was nothing that I couldn’t share with you. You were my sister from another mother. I keep hearing those words ‘Prof e ma worry o, with God on our side’. “Ki niOlorun ole se? E ma worry, Prof”. It’s so painful that you left without a goodbye. Come to think of it, the last day that you came to the office, you moved around most offices, especially in the Senate building, seems you were saying your goodbyes. It was only my office that you didn’t come. We had so many plans. Your papers, for assessment for promotion to Associate
Professor, are in my office. What do you want me to do with them? “A jo so bayi”. You were ever so passionate about your research and contribution to knowledge. Prof Owoeye, still shared with me some messages that you sent to him. Then, he wrote, see what she said about you.

In 2019 we went to Barcelona together for a conference on Food Science and Technology. That was the very first of my close experiences with you. We had so much fun especially with the cuisine. We explored all sorts together. Since then, whenever either of us travelled, we will always remember to bring back for the other person delicacies. You knew mine was to be savoury not sweet. I was still showing some colleagues the other day pictures of butter and margarine that I requested you bring for me from the UK. You introduced SkyFlakes ™ Crackers to me and Bisola of blessed memory.

Your young men are still in a state of shock. Tolu is like, “just like that?” It’s like a dream. Is it true? You didn’t want me to tell them. Tomi is just keeping mute. I know all sorts is going through his mind. He always got a special treatment from you, your baby. Well, we take solace in the fact that you are in a better place, that, we are sure of, free from pain and the hassles of this world. You have joined the saints triumphant, a cloud of witnesses.

Your legacy and memory live on. Continue to rest in the bosom of our Lord and Redeemer till we meet on the resurrection morning.
Your sister.
