Tribute to my Dearest Sister
My Dammy’s mummy. It is difficult for me to believe that you have gone to be with the Lord. We came together a long way from our University of Ife and University of Ibadan days in the early 1980s, looking forward to seeing you and your dear sister IkeOluwa during the long vacation. You were in the Spirit when you encouraged your sister to consider my proposal to become my wife. Since then, we have become closer, and the rest is history. You and your husband supported us during our rough times in Eket, sending foodstuffs and clothing to us irrespective of the large size of the clothes for our relatively smaller body frames.
When we eventually moved to Ibadan and opportunities came for my family to visit with you in your residence in the UK, you opened your doors very wide that the children saw in you that great love in their BIG MUMMY. No distance was too long for you to drive in the UK to give the children and my wife good and memorable holidays. Your kind heart and capacity to bear other people’s burden is unparalleled, you touched the lives of all that came across your path irrespective of their socio-economic class.
You loved the Lord with all your heart and served Him in various capacities. God used you to be start the RCCG Covenant Assembly; Chatham, Kent and you laboured over the Parish faithfully until you relocated to Nigeria to be with your husband and complete your PhD. In Nigeria, you continued to serve your Lord and Saviour, and became the Youth Pastor of RCCG, Jesus Chancery, a committed member of the Full Gospel Business Fellowship International, Agodi GRA Eminent Persons Chapter and an Interpreter at the Orita Igbala Outreach of the Anglican Church of Ascension, Akobo on Monday mornings at General Gas, Akobo, Ibadan.
You were a great rallying point for all our family activities and showed great love to many extended family members, many of who became closer to us through your legendary selfless love and care. It is difficult to forget the great moments we shared together when we stopped by on our way from work or during weekends at your house, which is 5 minutes away from our home. No more fondly calling of “Iky” or “Prof” as we climb the steps to meet you upstairs in the sitting room.
All my friends broke down in tears when they heard the news of your transition. The vacuum created by your passage is difficult to fill as we miss you on all fronts. We love you dearly but we know that our heavenly Father loves you more and it has pleased Him to call you to be with Him at this time.
Our consolation is that you served the Lord with your totality and also humanity, with great and selfless love so that we have the assurance that you are in a better place with the Lord. We pray for the grace to run the race faithfully as you did so that we will join you and be together again on the resurrection morning in Jesus name. Sleep well dearest sister and angel, in the bosom of our Lord Jesus Christ and God who created you.
Lots of love.
